What is rich black and how do I achieve it?
-
Rich black is an ink mixture of solid black, 100% K, with additional CMY ink values. This results in a darker tone than black ink alone. If you print black alone as 100% K, the resulting black may not be as dark as you might like.
-
For print we recommend using values of C60, M40, Y40, K100 for a dark rich black
-
For dye-sub printing (Polyester Banner, Flags, Table Covers, Fabric Tube Displays, etc.) we recommend C100, M100, Y100, K100
How to upload a mask file for spot UV and foil printing?
-
When creating a Spot UV job or foil finished job, you must include a mask template file along with the regular full color file.
-
A mask file indicates where foil or spot UV will be placed. Use 100% K to indicate where the UV/foil is only and the rest of file white
-
Need help setting up a mask layer? Contact us and we will happily assist you.
Can you provide a proof?
-
Yes and No. PDF proofs are not provided for TIF, JPG, PDF. These formats are flattened where images and fonts will not change.
-
Custom die cuts, perfect bound books, booklets, calendars, promo and apparel will always have a proof provided before production.
-
If a PDF proof is requested it can delay your job by up to 24 hours due due to the large volume of orders we receive.
-
Proofs are to ensure layout and design, not colour accuracy. Visit our Terms and Conditions page to learn more
-
We offer contract quality press match proofs in glossy and uncoated proof paper colour matched to the G7 (GRACoL 7) standard
-
Press match proofs (Epson colour proofs) are an additional cost
-
Customer supplied proofs are not accepted because they are not calibrated to the presses we work with
-
Please Note: Orders are printed in their "as submitted" form and the customer is fully responsible for final proof and layout verification and approval prior to submission to the print process. thePrintingCo DOES NOT make any changes on customer files.
-
For a full explanation of our Proofing and Ordering Process please visit our Terms and Conditions page.
Do you have layout templates I can use?
We have layout templates in .eps and jpeg with text guides, cut lines and bleed lines for all our print products available upon request.
Can you design the work for us?
Yes. Our designers can help bring your ideas to life! Email us at info@theprintingco.ca to get started today.
Can I Split My Order?
-
You cannot split an order, such as 5000 flyers into 2500 of one version and 2500 of another.
-
Instead, you need to order two sets of 2500. The runs are defined by the fact that the graphics are the same for every piece.
-
We are happy to pass along multi-item discounts when possible. Just email sales@theprintingco.ca with the details of your order.
Do You Guarantee Your Products?
-
Absolutely! We 100% guarantee your satisfaction and quality of our print products or your money back!*
-
*This satisfaction guarantee refers to the quality of the print job and paper stock only.
-
Print issues covered include, but are not limited to: ghosting, smudges, incorrect perforations, form alignment, incorrect folding, incorrect size, incorrect paper weight, incorrect finish, and incorrect paper stock.
Colour Accuracy
-
We cannot guarantee 100% colour accuracy for several reasons including differences in equipment, monitor calibrations, etc...
-
If your job is colour critical, we recommend you purchase an epson press match proof.
-
More information regarding guarantees in colour accuracy can be seen in our Terms Conditions
What is the difference between digital and offset Printing?
-
Digital printing is generally used when printing quantities of less than 1,000 and for certain products.
-
This is because there is much more time and cost involved with preparing for an offset (printing press) job.
-
The quality of our digital and offset product is very comparable and it is very difficult to tell the difference on most products.
My prints are darker than I expect with other companies...Will this happen with you?
-
Often people receive print jobs darker than they appeared on the monitor. This is because many monitors are manufactured significantly brighter than is actually accurate or have their brightness settings set to high.
-
A monitor can also be displaying too much of one colour or any number of problems including too much brightness
-
Unless you have significant experience with offset printing, you may want to consider brightening your files by 20%

Legal Stuff!
- Although we rarely miss production schedules, the printing and pre-press process involves equipment which is subject to malfunctions and/or equipment failure. We will always do everything in our power to make sure that any production problems do not delay your job. However, please note that ALL production and delivery times ARE NOT CONTRACTUAL and no turnaround time can be guaranteed. Please try to plan date sensitive materials timely.
- Because of differences in equipment, processing, proofing substrates, paper, inks, pigments, and other conditions between color proofing and production pressroom operations, a reasonable variation in color between color proofs and completed job shall constitute acceptable delivery. Please note that your monitor's calibration affects what you see on your screen. The colors on the printed cards may differ from what you see on your screen. Please keep in mind that while we will try our best to match proofs, we DO NOT GUARANTEE COLOR MATCHING
